What is coal:
From the Old English term col, which has meant "mineral of fossilized carbon" since the 13th century is a combustible black or brownish-black sedimentary rock usually occurring in rock strata in layers or veins called coal. The solid, usually brown or black carbon-rich material that most often occurs in stratified sedimentary deposits. It is one of the most important of the primary fossil fuels.
Different varieties of coal arise because of difference in kinds of plant material (coal type), degree of qualification (coal rank), and range of impurities (coal grade), although most coals occur in stratified sedimentary deposits, coal is the largest source of energy for the generation of electricity worldwide.
